ERO Dynamic Powered by TriRig

In partnership with TriRig, ERO Dynamic is the most advanced bike fit found anywhere. Offering the ability to definitetively identify your best aero position, this service allows you to quickly evaluate different positions to determine which is most comfortable, most aero, or both while riding one of the most advanced bikes ever made, the TriRig Omni. Beyond position, it also allows you to test aero helmets, clothing, or anything else not related to your bike. Here's how it works...

A Little Background

In 2013, ERO Sports was the first to offer aero testing on the Velodrome using the revolutionary Alphamantis Track Aero System. A less expensive alternative to wind tunnel testing, the system took the cycling world by storm, and is now used at Velodromes around the Globe. Pro Tour teams, National Federations, Pro Triathletes, and age group athletes everywhere now use the system to conduct accurate aero testing at about 1/3 the cost of wind tunnel testing. And, while the system has proven accurate, it's not without challenges.

The difficulty in aero testing on the Velodrome really comes down to time. Each test lasts approx 2 hours; however, much of that time, often the majority of that time, is spent not actually aero testing, but making changes to equipment. As most of you know, many modern TT/Tri bikes integration makes position changes difficult and very time consuming. As anyone who has tested on the Velodrome or in the wind tunnel will tell you, wasted testing time is wasted money. 

Wasted time also has other consequences. Velodrome testing is a preferred method of aero testing because the athlete is actually riding, so the interaction between rider and bike is included in the results. However, as the athlete sits around waiting for changes to their bike to be made, their body begins to go into recovery mode. Muscles stiffen, and the results are impacted...quite significantly. There's nothing wrong with the system, mind you, it's your body that is actually moving differently changing your drag from previous runs. Accuracy is effected, and the results come into question.

Poor bike maintenance and power meter inaccuracy are also issues we deal with which effect results.

So, there are many challenges to aero testing. ERO Dynamic solves these problems to make the testing more time efficient, more accurate, and less expensive!

The Service

ERO Dynamic is either 2 services in one, or a standalone service.

  1. Bike Fit and Aero Test combination - $625: A full bike fit followed by a One Hour Aero Test outdoors or on the veldrome (dependent on availability).
  2. Additional Aero Testing - $200 per hour

Beginning with the fit coordinates found during your fit, or using your current fit coordinates, we test several positions to determine which is optimal. Because we use the TriRig Omni with the Alpha One aero bar, these changes can be made in seconds for efficient, accurate testing.

Your test data will include results from positions near your aero-optimal position. Why? Because we want you armed with information. Perhaps your aero-optimal position isn't your most comfortable. We want you to know exactly how much time you're giving choosing the "less aero" position over aero-optimal. After all, if it's a small amount of time, perhaps less optimal is the better overall choice?

The service can also be used to test clothing and helmets quickly and accurately saving time and money.

Women's Specific Fit

"It's not supposed to hurt."  That is the mantra I speak to every woman who enters the fit studio right along with: "There's no such thing as normal pain" and "It's okay to complain."  For those women who've been fit by us, much of what follows will sound familiar, though there's plenty new here to make it a worthwhile read.  If you're here looking for our philosophy on women's fit, or to understand why we've experienced unprecedented success fitting women to bikes, then please read on.


When it comes to the difference between men and women fitting to bikes...we men are fools.  Trust me when I tell you, men have no idea what women feel on bikes because, if we felt what women do, we wouldn't ride them.  Not long ago, I read an article by a very intelligent man in the bike industry who wrote "...women feel at least as much pain as men on bikes."  It made me laugh.  No seriously, I laughed out loud with my laptop bouncing on my knees.  Clueless.  That's what we men are when it comes to what women feel on bikes.  Truth be told, women feel far greater pain then men do; they just handle pain better, or simply believe, "Of course it hurts, I'm riding a bike!"  Well, ladies, in case you didn't know, please allow me to be the first to set you free:

It's not supposed to hurt to ride a bicycle. Not your feet, not your knees, not your back, your hands shouldn't go numb, your shoulders and neck should not get stiff and sore, AND...your saddle should be, gasp!! comfortable!

No, really, believe it or not, it should actually feel good to ride a bike.  Your saddle does not have to be a torture device; you can actually feel good when you get off your bike at the end of a long ride.  Really - it's possible and, not only that, pretty easy to attain once you understand that you're not supposed to feel those pains, your body is simply telling you something is wrong.  Don't get used to it...fix it.

It's when I came to understand that, as a man, I don't understand what women feel on bikes, that I was able to find success fitting women.  That understanding, coupled with the realization that allowing a woman to comfortably communicate what she's physically feeling is the other key to a great fit, is what sets us apart.  I'll be the first to admit I don't know what women feel while riding, but I do understand my lack of understanding.  I do know that women handle pain better than men.  I know women believe these pains are normal and just come with the territory.  I know that women have all too often been told, "You'll get used to it" after complaining about pain to a man.  I know, and I'm here to tell you again - it's not suppose to hurt.

Okay, so let's get down to it.  Why do you feel the pain, and what can we do to fix it?  No need to be shy here, let's get straight to many women's number one enemy - the saddle.  Saddle pain is not an easy topic to discuss.  We're talking about areas where men and women don't often tread in light conversation, at least not without some pretty significant alcohol on board, and even woman to woman, this is not the easiest of topics.  So let me get you started, as I do during a fit session.  You see, men believe your saddle hurts you in one spot, and one spot only - right down the center of the saddle.  In fact, some times it does hurt there, or perhaps you go numb.  But I've found there's another area women often hurt when it comes to saddle pain.  It's an area just inside either thigh between your leg and the "soft tissue" (always a nice, gentle, way to describe that area) that can really cause you pain.  Men don't, or I should say, rarely, feel this type of pain, and it's excruciating.  There's no getting used to it, it won't go only gets worse as the miles pass by.  What you're feeling in that spot is your Ischium bone(s), and there's just not a lot between the bone and your saddle.  Too much pressure there and...Ouch!

Wherever the pain comes from, if a women feels uncomfortable on her saddle, nothing about the rest of her bike is likely to feel all the great either.  That's because she'll move in any direction to get rid of the pain - most often to the back of the saddle.  Sitting all the way to the back relieves pressure from the front, but it also destroys her position on the bike.  Oh, but that's not all!  Not only will she tend to shift to the back of the saddle, but she'll also rotate her pelvis posteriorly to aid in the relief of pressure.  Now she has real problems.  She's too far back on the saddle, her pelvic rotation is stretching the muscles in her back, and her reach to the bars is exaggerated. All of these "adaptations" and more can cause her a host of pain and discomfort.  So, long story short, if you're not comfortable on your saddle, the rest of your bike fit just isn't going to work.  You need a saddle that fits you.

 I wish there were a magic saddle that fit everyone, but there isn't.  Truth be told, saddle comfort is a combination of the saddle and your bike fit.  There are a few saddles I have more luck with than others.  For road bikes, the Specialized Ruby seems to work for many women on road bikes.  For tri bikes, saddles from ISM, Cobb, and one from SMP, the T3, seem to be the favorites. Lately, the ISM PN 3.0 has become very popular with women (and men). One of the keys is trying saddles in your preferred position, and make sure your position doesn't change. Your fit has a lot to do with saddle comfort, too. Simply swapping a saddle doesn't really allow you to know exactly how it feels unless you're sure your position has remained constant. Unless, of course, we're switching saddles for an improved position. Then we're trying not only saddle, but position changes, too! It's not easy, but it's what we do, and we understand all the nuances of saddle comfort. It's one of the reasons we've found success fitting women. Find the right saddle, and your optimal position will follow.

Beyond saddle comfort, the other issue we deal with most often is actually several areas of discomfort that are all typically related to one just don't know it.  It all stems from an improper fore/aft position on the bike (we're talking road bikes here, by the way), and it's almost always due to the client sitting too far forward.  It all starts innocently enough.  You feel as though your reach is too long, so you or someone else moves the seat forward to reduce how far you reach to the handlebar.  Problem solved?  Negative - problems created!  You may experience one, or all, of the following: numb or sore hands, shoulder pain or tension, sore or tense neck, lower back pain.  All of these are typically related to one another, and usually stem from being too far forward on the bike.  Oh, and you remember that uncomfortable saddle?  Well, the typical solution I see there is to tilt the saddle down.  Wrong!  That's a no-no because it either causes, or exacerbates, the problems I'm detailing here.  The solution?  A well balanced, proper fore/aft position.  We move your position back, and suddenly it removes pressure from your hands which, in turn, relieves tension in your shoulders and neck.  This also helps create proper pelvic tilt (assuming we've found a comfortable saddle) and, voila, lower back pain disappears, too!

Now, I'll be honest...I'm making this all sound much easier than it sometimes is.  And, quite frankly, it would take many articles to discuss all the pains women feel and their causes (perhaps I'll begin a series).  My point is this: it's not suppose to hurt, it doesn't have to hurt, and you can be comfortable on your bike!

ERO Insight

ERO Insight is our remote Bike Fitting, or Position Coaching, service for those who live too far from either of our locations to be fit in person, but still wish to take advantage of our experience and expertise. After thousands of bike fits over nearly 15 years, few fitters have found the success of ERO. We count amongst our clients over 20 Elite World Champions, Dozens of National Champions, and countless Age Group Champions. We've used motion capture long before virtually anyone else, analyzed all the data collected from the 3D motion captures of every client, and created ERO Insight as a unique fit system allowing us to provide the same quality of service online we offer in our fit studio.

The Position Coaching will be performed by me, Jim Manton, owner of ERO Sports. I have two options for you based on your needs. Each service involves video capture and analyzation, and include multiple "sessions." Following specific guidelines I provide, you take video captures of your position from 2 or more distinct angles and send them to me for review. I analyze them with specialized software to measure your specific biomechanics, and create an action list of position adjustments for improved comfort and performance. Each set of captures with subsequent review and recommendations constitute a session.

We can use Insight to fit any type of bike: Road, Gravel, Triathlon, Time Trial, Mountain Bike, Track. All can be fit with our system.

Why are am I doing this? Well, it's pretty simple. It's very hard, apparently, to get a good bike fit. There are a lot of people doing bike fits out there, but based on poor results constantly being posted online by people who are uncomfortable on their bikes, and the equally poor advice they receive as feedback on forums, I began helping athletes remotely and found great success while developing a process which allowed them to find their optimal positions. It worked so well, I decided to offer it as an official service for those who live too far from either of the ERO fit studios (don't forget Missy in Pennsylvania is awesome!), or even for those who live nearby but don't want to drive to Carson.

Basic Insight - $175


    1. Three Video Capture Sessions. With each session, videos are recorded and sent to ERO for evaluation. After analyzation, an Action List is created recommending changes to your position.
    2. Detailed instructions for video capture, proper measurement of bike, and how to make mechanical changes to your bike/equipment are provided.
    3. An Adjustable Fit Stem may be sent to the client for position changes.*
    4. One 15-30 minute phone call consultation.
    5. Online Storage of files including measurements for future review.
    6. Additional Sessions at $50 ea.

Advanced Insight - $275

For those looking for more of a one-on-one experience, we offer an enhanced online experience with live capture, consultation, and adjustment. The Advanced session includes a live online session via Skype and, specific fit equipment we send to you to facilitate the process. For instance, for bikes with traditional stem set-ups, an adjustable fit stem will be sent to the client prior to the live session allowing for semi-dynamic fit adjustments. The entire service includes multiple sessions and follow-ups.


    1. Initial video capture and analyzation session. Videos are recorded and sent to ERO for evaluation. After analyzation, and Action List is created recommending changes to your position.
    2. Live one hour online session including video capture and analyzation, consultation, and recommendations for further position adjustments. When applicable, this will involve the use of an adjustable fit stem provided by ERO prior to the session.
    3. Detailed instructions for video capture, proper measurement of bike, and how to make mechanical changes to your bike/equipment are provided.
    4. Two additional offline sessions including video capture, analyzation, and recommendations.
    5. Two 15-30 minute phone call consultations.
    6. Online storage of fit files for future review.
    7. Additional Sessions at $50 ea.
Both services include instructions and a questionnaire to prepare you for your fit. Based on your answers, additional prep work may be necessary.

What you'll need:
    1. Video - Current smart phones offer excellent quality HD videos, even in slow motion, and can be used for our intended purpose.
    2. Stationary trainer. Also, enough room from the side and front to allow proper distance from your camera to include you and your entire bike in the video capture.

We'll Provide:
    1. Tripod for proper phone set up.
    2. Adjustable Stem.*
    3. Metric Tape Measurer.
    4. Detailed Instructions.
    5. A personal Dropbox folder for video/file upload & download.
    6. The best online fit you'll find!

Aero Insight - $150

If what you're looking for is more about aerodynamic refinement and not a full bike fit, our Aero Consultation service is what you want. ERO has spent thousands of hours aero testing both on the track and in the wind tunnel. Few people in the world have more expeirence helping athletes lower their drag, and now everyone can enjoy the fruits of all that work.

Like our fit services, we analyze position videos you take from specific angles, and make recommendations for possible aeras of improvement. This covers not only position, but equipment as well. Bike, Aero Bars, Components, Helmets, and Clothing are all covered.

*Adjustable Stem is an additional fee for the Basic Position Coaching, and included with the Advanced Position Coaching service. A fully refundable deposit is required.
